SIX DAY HERO!

My first middle grade novel is coming out in 2017! Just in time for the 50th anniversary of the Six Day War, SIX DAY HERO tells the story of Motti, a 12-year-old boy living in West Jerusalem in 1967.

This book came about after I discovered there was nothing in print (fiction or non-fiction) for elementary and middle school readers about modern-day Israel (basically since its founding in 1948 until today.) Israel is in the news so often, everyone has strong feelings about what's going on there, and yet there's nothing about what led to this point. There's nothing for kids to learn from but the latest headlines and the waves of opinion that follow.

I thought, this is ridiculous, someone should do something about this! And, then...oh, wait. Me. I should do something about this.

So I did. And you can read it in just a few month! SIX DAY HERO. Stay tuned...

What would you do if your family won millions in the lottery when you were a kid and now all that’s left
after their extravagant spending is what’s held in trust for you until your eighteenth birthday—which is
next week? Stein, masterful author of complex teen novels in which ethics and Judaism are essential
components, proves herself once again in this companion to Kindred (2011). Floridian Leni is a bit
younger than Stein’s typical post-high-school protagonists, but she is astute, anguished by her older
sister’s news that the lottery was rigged, and just the right character to lend credibility to her discovery of
evil at the root of the mess surrounding her family and an angel to help her through it. Romance, money,
and mysticism are woven into a satisfying tale.
